Leo Carrillo...THIS is where all the fools sail away from
An odyssey by Ken Boyd and Joe Montoya

The video ALL THE FOOLS SAILED AWAY off of the 5th Dio solo release DREAM EVIL was a conceptual piece. But some of the story behind the video is just as interesting as the album itself. This Video (one of the two shot by Warner Brothers in promotion of this album) was shot on a sea shore in Malibu California--more specifically at a place called Leo Carrillo Public Beach.
Joe Montoya and myself made a trip out to this location, almost 13 years after the fact, to get a feel for the place, take some photos and share the experience with the rest of you fans out there.
Joe had in fact been there on the day of the shooting and was telling me where everything was set up and how the schedule was set up to take place.
So lets all take that trip right now...

All The Fools Sailed Away (Ronnie James Dio/Craig Goldie) 7:13--Track FOUR
Chorus on "All The Fools Sailed Away": Mitchell Singing Boys
Album Review NotesBy the mid-'80s Dio had become one of heavy metal's biggest concert draws. While such albums as HOLY DIVER and THE LAST IN LINE sold well (both were certified gold), it was Dio's bombastic and highly theatrical stage show that drew the attention of metalheads worldwide.
For their fourth full-length release, (fifth if we count the Mini LP Intermission) 1987's DREAM EVIL, original guitarist Vivian Campbell had been replaced by Craig Goldie (Campbell would return as a hired gun in both Whitesnake and Def Leppard after some failed stints at solo projects and little known bands Shadow King and River Dogs), signaling the band's first line-up change. While the album wasn't as stellar as the two aforementioned titles, such metallic Dio-esque epics as "All the Fools Sailed Away" and "Sunset Superman" are definitive standouts.
Video Details/Trivia:
Craig Goldy:
It was brought to my attention (though I have not personally been able to confirm this) that Craig was actually caught alight with fire during this shoot. If you notice in the video there are a number of fires that are irrupting all about the band members as they play along to the music track. you might also notice that there is not source material (like wood or paper etc), therefore the flames are all derived form a chemical base most likely--and quite dangerous if not handled with care.
Obviously Craig was not seriously injured, but I would imagine it to be quite a frightening experience at the least.
Terri Weigel:
We have all seen the nymph beauty in the video. There are actually two--one blonde and one brunette. The latter I discovered to be none other than Terri Weigel--yes of infamous blue movies.
At the time she was the BC Rich Bitch girl for the guitar company that Craig Goldy was slinging for (remember his old Warlock model guitars?)
Below we see Tony McAlpine at a guitar workshop with a poster of Terri in the background.
Likewise, here a close up picture when she went from BC Rich girl to the Farnell guitar repi without that long wig we see her bearing in the video.

I have been unable to find further information of the blonde girl in the video, as well as the Mitchell Singing Boys Choir, so any info you could pass along would be appreciated.
All The Best,
KEN
