A
NOTE FROM NICKO
London,
Sunday 14th May
2000
Well
you lucky boyz and girls, only a very short time now and you will no doubt be in
possession of our brand new album - Brave
New World. If
you’re not going to get it I’ll wanna know why!!!
What
have I been up to you ask?
Well
I’ve been rehearsing with the band over in Antwerp for the last two weeks and
it’s been going fantastically. The new songs that we’re doing from Brave New
World sound
‘kin great! There are eight tracks oft of the new album and I can assure you
that they all sound MASSIVE
live.
I am so ‘kin excited about this one. Kin magic! The rehearsal room is
brilliant, we’re have a great time working the set out for you lot and we’re
very happy with what’s going on so far.
Last
week we had a great surprise. Me old mate Ronnie James Dio was playing in the
city, so I decided that I couldn’t miss out on seeing me pal. I thought that
Jimmy Bain was going to be there as well but the poor old hugger had a problem
with his work visa so he couldn’t do the tour.
So
I headed down to the venue with Bruce and Janick. We had the usual two or three
beers on arrival and were then taken to a small room upstairs from the main
floor to watch the band. I lasted about ten minutes, just long enough to meet
with Wendy Dio, as always a ‘kin great pleasure to see her. After having a
little chat with her, I made my way back stage. Well I had to go and mess with
Simon Wright, another dear friend and a great player by the way ahhh. He’s
playing like a demon, not realizing that I’m crouched on the floor just to his
left. I swagged a pair of sticks from his drum tech and started to crack a
couple of hits on his cymbals. Well he ain’t too sure at first what he’s
hearing, then he takes a little look to his left and sees me grinning from ear
to ear and he breaks out into a little laugh and tells me to piss off Tee Hee!
Oh
yeah, just before this goes down, I’m standing stage right and from the other
side of the stage, Willy Fyfe, Ronnie’s dear old friend and personal assistant
looks over at me and he’s having a hard time making out who this handsome
blond haired guy on the opposite side of the stage is. So he’s squinting and
looks like he’s thinking ‘kin hell, who’s that handsome blond bastard over
there, I’d best go and sling his handsome butt out of here’! So he’s
charged over and halfway across he’s recognized me mid we had a hug and said
Hi to each other. “Does Ronnie know you’re here’?” he asked. “No” I
said, and he said, “He’ll be happy to know you’re here”.
So
at the end of Ronnie’s set I got up as I do whenever I’m at a Dio show, and
jammed ‘Rainbow in the Dark’ or as I call it ‘Rainbow in the night’. It
was great, Bruce got up to sing as well doing ‘Man on the Silver Mountain’
and Long Live Rock and Roll’. It was a total blast!
Well
me loves, I’m ‘kin done in now. It’s taken me so ‘kin long to write this
piece, the effing boozers’ going to be shut in a while, so without further ado
I’m popping down there too!
I
love you all, and God bless every one of ya.
Ta, Nicko.
