Jeff Pilson on AOL ECR Chat
HOST EMC Wasp: Hello!
HOST EMC Wasp: Jeff has arrived... let's get underway!
HOST EMC Wasp: Welcome everyone!!
HOST EMC Wasp: Tonight we're very excited to have with us Jeff Pilson!!
HOST EMC Wasp: You know of Jeff as not only the former bassist in Dokken but
also from his work with Ronnie James
HOST EMC Wasp: Dio, War & Peace and countless other projects. Jeff is currently
working on his new project
HOST EMC Wasp: 'Underground Moon' as well as another project he has going with
former Dokken guitarist George Lynch!
HOST EMC Wasp: You can keep up with Jeff's projects and all other Pilson info at
www.JeffPilson.com!!
HOST EMC Wasp: Without further delay, please welcome Jeff Pilson!
PilsonJeff: Hi everyone! Sorry I'm late.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Hi Jeff , SeaFood Buddy Here. Any Plans To Play NY with any of
your projects this year?
PilsonJeff: No concrete plans yet, it's too early, but I certainly hope to.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Settle on name for Lynch/Pilson Project?
HOST EMC Wasp: I think you should call it. LP Get It? =0)
PilsonJeff: Not yet, any good ideas? The name LP is actually under
consideration. That's my favorite so far.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Do you still have plans to tour with tesla this summer ???
PilsonJeff: I haven't heard anything more about it, I know that our record won't
be out until at least the fall, so I'm
PilsonJeff: not sure if it makes sense.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: When can we expect the first single to hit radio ???
PilsonJeff: I wish I could tell you a solid answer but I don't know at this
point.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Do you ever miss the "old" days of rock ??
PilsonJeff: Not really, I do miss playing arenas because that was great but I am
much happier now.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff, James Kottak Said your The best. Loved working on War &
Peace (light at the end of the tunnel) with
HOST EMC Wasp: you. Please Tour with W&P.
PilsonJeff: I would love to but I would rather tour with Underground Moon and
Lynch/Pilson first. Maybe someday I will do
PilsonJeff: a mini tour with it, it would be fun.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: What's in you cd player right now ???
PilsonJeff: Deftones
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: We are so happy to see you and George back together again !!
Have either of you spoken to Don since
HOST EMC Wasp: getting together ??
PilsonJeff: No
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Do you and George and any plans to visit any radio stations
across the states to promote the album before
HOST EMC Wasp: the tour ???
PilsonJeff: We would love to but it's so hard to say those types of things right
now, I am actually calling in from the
PilsonJeff: studio right now where we are working on the album. One of my
favorite things to do are acoustical promotion
PilsonJeff: tours.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: How did Underground Moon come about and was this something
that you've been doing for awhile and it just
HOST EMC Wasp: blossomed into a full time gig?
PilsonJeff: In a way, it actually started out because I was going to do a solo
record in Japan about two years ago
PilsonJeff: and I started writing what became the last War And Peace record and
then I continued writing
PilsonJeff: in what became the Underground Moon songs, I liked it but it had a
different sound than War & Peace so we
PilsonJeff: called it Underground Moon.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: When You finially hit the road w/ Pilson/Lynch Project. What
songs will you play live. Any Chance for
HOST EMC Wasp: Idie Worship"?
PilsonJeff: I strongly doubt that, that would have to be on the War & Peace mini
tour. I am sure that we would
PilsonJeff: play several Dokken songs, Mr. Scary, It's Not Love....
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Any plans for a street team to help promote the "new" group
???
PilsonJeff: No plans yet, everything is just so early, it sounds like a great
idea, people should start talking at the
PilsonJeff: web sites about it, that would help.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Don has said that you were no longer interested in playing
Dokken type music. First, is that true and
HOST EMC Wasp: second how would you compare Underground Moon's music and the
music youre making with George to Dokken
HOST EMC Wasp: material?
PilsonJeff: First, no of course that's not true. The music that George and I are
making definitely has Dokken
PilsonJeff: elements to it, I think that what we are doing is fresh but it still
maintains the sounds that we had in
PilsonJeff: Dokken. UM is somethingall together different, I like to experiment
with different sounds and layering, it is
PilsonJeff: still very melodic but it is heavier than what I did with Dokken and
than what I am doing with George. It is
PilsonJeff: still all about melody, no matter what I am doing.
PilsonJeff: .ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff ,You have worked with a few Guitarists . who are few of
your Fav's?
PilsonJeff: When George is on (which he has been lately) he is my favorite
living rock guy. Reb was amazing
PilsonJeff: to work with and Michael Schenker was incredible to work with too.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: jeff, do you remember coming to philly & doing an in store
when you opened up for twisted sister??
PilsonJeff: Not really, that would have been in 1985 or 86.
PilsonJeff: .ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff...finally get a spare minute between prijects?
PilsonJeff: No, not a single one.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Hi Jeff, This is EvilSpyc...so who are the guys in your new
band? :-D
PilsonJeff: Undeground Moon consists of Mike Pelletier on guitar, Mike Longworth
on guitar, Tony Bonadio on bass,
PilsonJeff: Glen Schricker on drums, and Johnny Zatus on keys and samples and me
on vocals.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff... How are ravinder and Melrose? Doing much wedding
planning?
PilsonJeff: Wedding planning, good, things are getting together for that.
Melrose, not so good, he got neutered last week
PilsonJeff: so he is running around with a bucket on his head.
PilsonJeff: .ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Who's handling vocals in the Pilson/Lynch project and who else
is in the band??
PilsonJeff: Right now it's just George and I and a drummer by the name of
Michael Frowein and yours truly is singing.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Could you tell us why exactly you chose to not continue in
Dokken? Was it a difficult decision?
PilsonJeff: Well that isn't exactly what went down, it's a long story but here
is the AOL chat version. My game plan was
PilsonJeff: to release a new Dokken record around the time of the release of the
Rock Star movie. Warner Bros. Pictures
PilsonJeff: were very supportinve of croos promoting with us if we had a record
out at the time. It seemed like
PilsonJeff: a logical thing to do but the band couldn't come to an agreement on
that. It really became a scheduling issue
PilsonJeff: and because we couldn't get our schedules to match, they chose to
move on and replace me. That's the best way
PilsonJeff: to explain it in this environment.
PilsonJeff: .ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff, what's the worst and the best thing about working with
Don Dokken, and do you think the fans react
HOST EMC Wasp: positively or negatively when Dokken takes the stage without
George?
PilsonJeff: The best thing about working with Don was when we connected and
wrote great songs. The
PilsonJeff: worst thing was trying to sort through his ego. I think fans had a
definite negative
PilsonJeff: reaction when we played without George although I think that Reb did
an amazingly good job at doing his job
PilsonJeff: but keeping true to his own sound.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff, I just have to say that you were SOOO HOT in Rock Star.
How hard was it to get that HOT and did it
HOST EMC Wasp: take long!? :D
PilsonJeff: Well if this is what you mean, make-up call was generally at 6:45 in
the morning and we generally didn't start
PilsonJeff: filming til about 9; or did you mean that I just sweat alot.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff, Have you signed a deal yet for LP? If yes with who?
PilsonJeff: Not yet, we are sorting through deals right now.
PilsonJeff: .ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Writing, Playing, Producing, acting...do you ever sleep???
PilsonJeff: I can do that when I'm dead.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Have you ever worked with Tracii Guns ??
PilsonJeff: Not worked but he is a friend of mine and our birthdays are two days
apart so we have had several
PilsonJeff: joint birthday parties over the years.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: In a perfect world who would "you" want to tour with this fall
???
PilsonJeff: Do you mean with Underground Moon or Lynch/Pilson and are you asking
about bands that we would like to open
PilsonJeff: for or play with?
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff, have you been approached by anyone in the satellite
radio industry to air any live shows??
HOST EMC Wasp: (specifically XM or Sirius?)
PilsonJeff: No
PilsonJeff: sounds great!
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff...the players on UM and the PIlson/Lybch project (except
you and George) are not...shall we say..
HOST EMC Wasp: ..."known". Would you have considered more "profiled" musicians
or was it a concious effort to play with
HOST EMC Wasp: "fresher" guys?
PilsonJeff: My only concern was to have the right chemistry and these guys all
have it. The formation of UM was quite
PilsonJeff: magical; I didn't even hold auditions, I just gathered everyone
together and it worked out amazingly.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff, can you verify that Don wears a wig?
PilsonJeff: No, he often wears hair extensions and I know that he has had
transplants, but I think that about 85% of what
PilsonJeff: you see now belongs to him, naturally or not.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: were you disappointed "rock star" didnt reach a bigger
audience?
PilsonJeff: Of course I was, it certainly didn't help that it came out two days
before Sept. 11th but there is
PilsonJeff: always video and to me it was all icing on the cake, it was a great
experience.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Do you get much fan mail ???
PilsonJeff: Through the Internet, yes.
PilsonJeff: /ga
PilsonJeff: But never too much LOL
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff, how do you like playing the BirchHill in NJ (why is it
such a mecca for awesome bands-it's such a
HOST EMC Wasp: dive) And did you know they lost their liquor license?
PilsonJeff: Didn't know about the liquor license but I think that it's the only
club in that area that
PilsonJeff: brings in national acts so it is a mecca by default, 9 shows out of
10 there have been great and the fans
PilsonJeff: there are absolutely wild.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Whou would you like LP to open for ??
PilsonJeff: I think that it would be great to play with someone like Queensryche
or Tesla.
PilsonJeff: Playing with Motley would be fun too.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff, Who would you like to Jam with that you havent?
PilsonJeff: I would love to play with Tom York from Radiohead, any of the guys
in the Deftones and I have never actually
PilsonJeff: jammed with Tommy Lee (would love to do that).
PilsonJeff: .ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: Jeff, ever see Zakk Wylde drink anyone under the table?
PilsonJeff: Many, many, many times. Zakk is actually recording at the same studio
that I am right now (George and I) so he
PilsonJeff: comes into the studio every night with a couple of beers and we BS.
He is a crack up. He was
PilsonJeff: talking about having a hangover the other night and when he said he
said that he woke up feeling like
PilsonJeff: "Prison Ass" I nearly died laughing.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: Q: How long realistically do you think before we see an album
from either UM or LP and which project do you
HOST EMC Wasp: think will have their material out first?
PilsonJeff: The UM record is available at my website www.jeffpilson.com or
www.undergroundmoon.com. George and I have
PilsonJeff: just started recording the final run of our record over the last few
days and it is
PilsonJeff: going absoultely AMAZING!!! Mike Tacci, who recorded the Metallica
black album has been recording us at A&M
PilsonJeff: Studios in Los Angeles and it is blowing our minds way past what we
thought we were capable of getting blown
PilsonJeff: to. We have recorded guitar, bass, and drums for all the songs (13).
Our goal is
PilsonJeff: to be done recording by early May, mixed soon thereafter, sort
through the
PilsonJeff: record deals and the business decisions, and have a record out by
Fall.
PilsonJeff: I really hope that people can check out the UM record as it is
finally available here but I hope to have a US
PilsonJeff: release date also for the Fall.
PilsonJeff: /ga
HOST EMC Wasp: That just about wraps things up for tonight. Thanks to everyone
for coming out and being so cool!
HOST EMC Wasp: Any last comments Jeff??
PilsonJeff: I am excited for people to hear all the new material from both
projects and thanks to all the fans, you make
PilsonJeff: it all worthwhile.
PilsonJeff: /ga
PilsonJeff: Good night!
HOST EMC Wasp: Once again thank you all for coming and a special thanks to Jeff
for taking the time tonight!
HOST EMC Wasp: Keep up with all the latest Jeff Pilson info at
