Question 1: The Rainbow moniker was chosen how? The infamous Rainbow Bar and Grill, in Los Angeles, California said to be one of Blackmore's favorite hangouts. Question 2: Name the Original line up for Rainbow. Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, Craig Gruber, Gary Driscoll and Mickey Lee Soule Question 3: What were the original working titles for Light in the Black and Kill The King? Coming Home and Got To Get Away were the original working titles of these two great tunes. Question 4: Who was the first to be fired from the original Rainbow line up? Craig Gruber was the first to go in July of 1975, August saw his replacement as a hot young new bassist: Jimmy Bain--though Gruber did return to the band all of four weeks before being agian replaced by Mark Clarke. Question 5: Name the 3 Don Kirshner Videos. Long Live Rock 'n' Roll, Gates Of Babylon and L.A. Connection--they were all three filmed with recorded music tracks while Ronnie did a live vocal over it--thus the differing lyrics from the studio versions. Question 6: Who were the players on the Don Kirshner videos? Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, Cozy Powell, David Stone and Bob Daisley were featured in all three. Question 7: Name one member to work later with Dio in his solo career, who did not record with them. (Not Jimmy Bain) Bob Daisley filled in on bass duties for the European leg of Magica due to Bain's inability to leave the United States at the time. Cozy indicated it took 20 minutes to write and he didn't think anything more of it until he was asked to do it on Top Of The Pops. Question 9: The infamous lighted Rainbow stage set was said to be inspired by what? California Jam 1974 stage backdrop of a Rainbow where Deep Purple headlined that HUGE event! Question 10: What was the First gig scheduled for the first Dio era tour line up? Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 5, 1975--the show was rescheduled for December 18th. Question 11: What was the First gig actually played by the Dio era tour line up? Montreal Forum in Canada, November 10th, 1975 supported by a band called Argent. Question 12: What city was Ritchie arrested and fined 5,000 pounds for kicking a bouncer and breaking his jaw? In Vienna--Ritchie was actually held in jail and fines £5,000. This made Ritchie arrive late, delaying the consert, to the only show that was officially filmed from this line up: known best as Rainbow '77, a night in Munich on the 20th of October! Question 13: Name the Highest Charting Dio era Rainbow Single for the UK and US respectively. Long Live Rock 'n' Roll reached #33 in March 1978 on the UK charts. In the US they didn't have any entries in the single charts until "Since You Been Gone" with the Graham Bonnet line up. On the UK Album charts both On Stage (in July of '77) and Long Live Rock 'n' Roll (in April of 1978) reached #7. In the August of 1975 the first album, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, charted at #30.
